I was introduced to CoQ10 as an supplement about 4 years ago. At the time, I was in the middle of detoxing from mold, and I had already spent a lot of money on our moldy home, new belongings and on health supplements.
So I was skeptical to try yet another thing, but the truth was that I was only about 50% better, which is not enough at all. So I tried it.
CoQ10 is not a quick-fix for energy, but, as I experienced, it’s an amazing supplement to restore your sustained, moment-to-moment energy.
When I recently had the opportunity to carry a newly-developed CoQ10 technology in our Functional Detox Products line, I was excited to give it a try.
The result is our new CoQ10 Energy supplement, which definitely passed the test with me, and I know it’s a supplement that our ‘toxic’ clients will benefit from, just like I do!
What Is CoQ10?
Coenzyme Q10, or ubiquinone, is a lipophilic antioxidant that your body produces and that also can be obtained through food and supplementation. (1) CoQ10 obtained through diet is usually low at around 5 mg/day and it’s found highest in foods like fatty fish, organ meats and whole grains. (2)
CoQ10 levels decline significantly with age.
“A 10% decline in aerobic cellular respiration has been observed every decade, possibly due to the natural decline in ubiquinol synthesis and increased degradation due to aging....the following aerobic cellular respiration declines were observed at 80 years of age versus 20 years of age: heart (−58%), pancreas (−83%), adrenal (−50%), liver (−17%), kidney (−45%) and skin (−75%).” (3)
As CoQ10 is involved in so many important bodily functions, as you’ll learn below, supplementing with CoQ10 may improve certain health conditions.
CoQ10 cycles between its three chemical forms: completely oxidized (ubiquinone), a semi-oxidized intermediate free radical (semiquinone) and a completely reduced form (ubiquinol).” (4)
There is much debate about the best form of CoQ10 for supplementation. There is also an inherent issue in trying to get a large molecule of CoQ10 through a cellular membrane and then a mitochondrial membrane. (5)
Our CoQ10 formula contains co-factors that increase bioavailability, including at the deepest cellular level.
The formula includes:
200 mg DuoQuinol™per serving
120 mg trans-geranylgeraniol as GG-Gold™ per serving
DuoQuinol™ supplies ubiquinol directly. It also provides geranylgeraniol (as GG-Gold™), a CoQ10 building block, which may help stimulate ubiquinol production naturally in the body’s cells. The proprietary blend of CoQnol™ includes DuoQuinol™, GG, ascorbyl palmitate, and quillaja extract, which creates a stable solution that prevents crystallization and promotes bioavailability of ubiquinol.
“In vitro studies have characterized GG as ‘cell permeable’ and ‘readily diffusible,’ displaying the ability to easily penetrate outer and inner cell membranes, as its molecular weight is one-third that of CoQ10. Supplemental GG provides building blocks and upregulates by mass action the metabolic pathways that synthesize ubiquinone3 and other essential cell signaling molecules.” (6)
“This difference may be especially beneficial in states of high oxidative stress (aging, diabetes, exercise-induced and excessive toxin load) or in those whose gut cells need greater antioxidant protection.” (7)
What Does CoQ10 Do in the Body?
Biological Actions of CoQ10:
ATP cellular energy production
Supports cell growth and differentiation
Supports mitochondrial permeability
Protects DNA, especially mitochondrial DNA
Protects lipids and proteins (it’s a lipid-soluble antioxidant)
Recycles vitamin E and C
Anti-inflammatory
Affects 100+ genes
Important in mitochondrial biogenesis
Supports liver health
Supports glucose and fat metabolism
Supports exercise performance and recovery
Enhances glutathione activity (8)
“In animal models of acute liver injury caused by drugs, toxic chemicals and parasites, CoQ10 administration reduced cirrhotic tissue damage via downregulation of oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokine production.” (9)
Ten Conditions That Benefit from CoQ10
At the risk of looking like a zealot, I really do think CoQ10 is powerful in so many ways!
Our own community is mainly suffering from chronic illness, whether it’s persistent fatigue with unknown origins, or known diagnoses of Lyme, parasites, Candida, mold, etc. with multiple symptoms.
As you’ve heard me explain about toxic mold, this toxin not only affects the mitochondria, but it affects about every body system, as every cell has mitochondria!
Taking CoQ10 as a supplement can have a very broad benefit in recovering from toxic mold or other toxins.

Getting Started with Mi CoQ10
We designed our CoQ10 Energy to last a month at an average dosage of two per day. I take mine first thing in the morning on my empty stomach and I tolerate well even though I am supplement sensitive.
But you can start our CoQ10 Energy at one a day with breakfast and see how you do. While an average dose is two a day in the morning, you can absolutely consider a second dose at lunchtime, especially if you are dealing with severe fatigue.
CoQ10 has not been tested in breastfeeding and is not recommended if taking blood-thinners. Conversely, CoQ10 is recommended if using statin drugs, as these drugs lower CoQ10 levels. Taking CoQ10 may reduce your dosage need for blood pressure medication, so talk to your doctor if you are on this or any medication. (10, 11)
As I mentioned in my introduction, this supplement is not for a quick boost. It will likely take 1-3 months to notice changes. You may notice:
More consistent energy throughout the day
Fewer cravings for carbs and caffeine
Healthier skin
Improved metabolism
Better brain function
Greater ability to detoxify
